4A Region 6 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Germantown and Mendenhall played the most hotly contested game in 4A Region 6 this week, with Germantown eventually emerging with a 42-41 victory. Tyler Shell threw for 100 yards and one touchdown and ran for 18 yards in the win.
Florence led the league in scoring this week after putting up 51 points on Richland. Cole Robinson threw for 308 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 12 yards in the win.
Travis Singleton was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 116 yards as the Mavericks beat the Rangers. Chester Lewis also contributed to the rushing game with 52 yards on the ground.
Smith was the best wideout in 4A Region 6 this week as Florence topped Richland. Smith tallied three receptions for 152 yards. Michael Thurman helped Florence's passing attack out by catching three balls for 121 yards.
Steve Pruett's team's Robinson and Smith have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Robinson has thrown for 1074 yards this season, while Smith, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 31 catches for 650 yards. Singleton from Germantown leads the league in rushing with 570 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Port Gibson takes on the Eagles. At the moment, the Blue Waves are in first, while Florence is in sixth.
