The Thales Academy Apex Titans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 75-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lee Christian. The matchup was a 40-40 toss-up at halftime, but Thales Academy Apex was outscored by Lee Christian in the second.
Thales Academy Apex lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nathan Purvis, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. Purvis is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Justin Brown was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Thales Academy Apex smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lee Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Daniel Rumbold, who scored 31 points along with seven assists and two steals. Rumbold has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Farrar, who scored 22 points along with three steals.
Thales Academy Apex has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Lee Christian, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thales Academy Apex on the road again on Friday and play against Neuse Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Lee Christian, they will square off against Bradford Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bradford Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
