1A District 7 recap October 29, 2013
Williston's Darien Thompson rumbled for the longest rushing play in 1A District 7 this season in his game against Lecanto last week. Thompson's team defeated the Panthers as he sprinted for 85 yards on the play and finished with 100 in all.
Union County scaled the state rankings by moving to 96 from 131 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Fightin' Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Chiefland 28-7.
Keith Neal was a beast in the backfield as Williston bested Lecanto.
Neal was a passing and rushing force as Jamie Baker's team beat McKinley Rolle's team.
Neal was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 301 yards on 24 carries as the Red Devils bested the Panthers. Thompson also contributed to the rushing game with 100 yards on the ground.
Union County's Caleb Cox and Princeton Alexander have formed a dream team this season, leading 1A District 7 in both passing and receiving yards. Cox has thrown for 1,172 yards this season, while Alexander has 16 catches for 274 yards. Neal from Williston leads the league in rushing with 930 yards.
Alphonso Timmons of the the Indians is only 79 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Timmons has rushed for 921 yards on 126 carries so far this year.
The Bears are in first place, while Chiefland is in third place.
There should be lots of points scored when the Red Devils and Ronny Pruitt's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Williston comes in having scored 356 this season, while the Fightin' Tigers have scored 231. The Red Devils scored 62 points last week as they beat Lecanto.
Dixie County extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Newberry, 51-11. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
