It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Jefferson Cougars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Wheeling Park by a score of 21-14. Winning may never get old, but Jefferson sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jefferson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tay?Shaun Roper, who rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Roper's longest rush was for an incredible 91 yards.
Despite the defeat, Wheeling Park saw an underclassman step up: Amare Johnson gained 85 total yards and two touchdowns.
Jefferson has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 9-3 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.0 points per game. As for Wheeling Park, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3.
Jefferson will head out on the road to face off against Martinsburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Martinsburg's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games. Wheeling Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
