Basketball Recap: Woods Cross Skates Past Skyline with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woods Cross). They claimed a resounding 84-45 victory over the Skyline Eagles. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 57-56 loss the last time these two teams met.

Woods Cross' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madden Johnsen led the charge by going 7 of 8 en route to 20 points and seven assists. Those 20 points gave Johnsen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hunter Jackson, who almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, nine rebounds, and 11 assists.

Johnsen wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Woods Cross was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Skyline's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Rasmussen, who posted 13 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Sunderland, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points.

The win (which was Woods Cross' fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Skyline, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3.

Woods Cross will venture away from home to take on Weber at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Weber knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Woods Cross likes a good challenge. As for Skyline, they will host Layton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Skyline is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
