The Smithville Seminoles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 43-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mantachie. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smithville in their matchups with Mantachie: they've now lost six in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Smithville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mary Haley Hood. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hood scored a full 50% of Smithville's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla Wall, who scored 6 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
Smithville's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Mantachie, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Tupelo Christian Prep at 12:00 p.m. on December 8th. As for Mantachie, they will face off against New Site at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully New Site focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
