Two dominant signal callers in Kymone Brown and Jeff Thompson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Jeannette Jayhawks will head out on the road to square off against the Clairton Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Jeannette sitting on five straight victories and Clairton on ten.
Jeannette is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They strolled past Bentworth with points to spare, taking the game 38-24. Jeannette's win was all the more impressive since the Bearcats were averaging only 9.18 points allowed on the season.
Jayce Powell was nothing short of spectacular: he picked up 47 receiving yards and one TD, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Noah Sunder also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Jeannette was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Sunder, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Clairton put their dominant defense on display in the team's tenth consecutive shutout on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 50-0 victory over Monessen. Considering the Bears have won nine matchups by more than 42 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jeannette better keep an eye on Deon Lovelace-Pompey. He was instrumental in Clairton's win, rushing for 114 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. Lovelace-Pompey also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making eight total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass. Michael Ruffin was another key player, picking up 93 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Jeannette's record now sits at 8-3. As for Clairton, their record is now 10-1.
Jeannette was taken down by Clairton 57-0 when the teams last played back in September. Can the Jayhawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
