The Avon Orioles entered their tilt with the Brownsburg Bulldogs with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Avon escaped with a win on Tuesday against Brownsburg by the margin of a single free throw, 57-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Avon found their leader in underclassman Jedidiah Minnett, who scored 19 points along with two steals. Minnett has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Kramer, who scored eight points along with two blocks.
Brownsburg lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Grant Porath, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Porath is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Brendan Lattimer was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Avon's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Brownsburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will challenge Plainfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Plainfield knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Avon likes a good challenge. Brownsburg on the road again on Saturday and play against Cascade at 12:00 p.m. on January 6th. Cascade will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Brownsburg is ranked 40th).
