The Holmes Aces's game last Thursday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-39 win over Currituck County. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Holmes has posted yet this season.
Holmes found their leader in underclassman Chloe Chappell, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Kate Foster was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Currituck County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Parker, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals. Parker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Arianna White, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
The win got Holmes back to even at 5-5. As for Currituck County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holmes will take on First Flight at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. First Flight is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Currituck County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 550th, while Currituck County is ranked 194th).
