Roosevelt is 1-7 against Garfield since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Roosevelt Rough Riders will square off against the Garfield Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
The third road matchup was the charm for Roosevelt, as they earned their first road win of the season. Everything went their way against South Gate on Friday as Roosevelt made off with a 46-20 win. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Roosevelt's 12-point performance the contest before.
Meanwhile, Garfield had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49.6 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They breezed by Legacy at home to the tune of 42-7. Garfield pushed the score to 35-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Legacy had little chance of recovering from.
Damian Cabrera was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt. Cabrera hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Jayden Barnes also helped out with an impressive 100 receiving yards.
Roosevelt's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Garfield, their win was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Roosevelt came up short against Garfield in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 16-8. Can Roosevelt avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
