Redwood Christian is 1-9 against St. Joseph Notre Dame since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Pilots at 4:00 p.m. Redwood Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Redwood Christian gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over San Domenico. Considering the Eagles have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Savannah Hendren, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Cook, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Redwood Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Notre Dame entered their tilt with Head-Royce on Friday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jayhawks, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pilots have posted since April 8th.
Cassandra Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ella Schwartz was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Safah Hashemi also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
St. Joseph Notre Dame pushed their record up to 16-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Redwood Christian, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Redwood Christian hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph Notre Dame struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Redwood Christian came up short against St. Joseph Notre Dame in their previous matchup back in April, falling 8-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
