The Carrizozo Grizzlies lost against the Cloudcroft Bears back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Carrizozo took a 39-25 bruising from Cloudcroft. Carrizozo has not had much luck with Cloudcroft recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Carrizozo's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryana Villanueva, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds. Villanueva scored a full 36% of Carrizozo's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Amalia Gabaldon, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds.
Carrizozo's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Cloudcroft, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carrizozo will take on Clovis Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clovis Christian will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Cloudcroft, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Mesilla Valley Christian School at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Mesilla Valley Christian School is ranked 28th, while Cloudcroft is ranked 38th).
