West Shamokin moved up to 463 from 542 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL A Eastern. A 28-7 win over the Wolves helped the Wolves improve their standing.
Northgate extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Wilkinsburg, 53-16. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Flames.
Apollo Ridge's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jesse Zelonka threw for 97 and one touchdown and Tre Tipton had 51 yards receiving. On the ground Lonny Wells Jr chipped in 78 yards. Wells Jr helped Apollo Ridge's passing attack out by catching one ball for 17 yards.
The Vikings' Zelonka and Tipton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Zelonka has thrown for 545 yards this season, while Tipton, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 19 catches for 369 yards. West Shamokin's Zac Horner leads the league in rushing yards with 248.
A big matchup in WPIAL A Eastern this week will be when Apollo Ridge takes on Avonworth. As it stands, John Skiba's team is in fifth, while the Antelopes are in third.
Avonworth was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in the league. Derek 'Duke' Johncour's team beat Josh Gilliland's team 28-7 earlier in the week.
