On Monday, the Grace Academy Lions were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 74-69 to the Jackson Day Mariners.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Evan Buslovich, who posted 16 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Carson Payne, who had 12 points.
Even though they lost, Grace Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson Day only posted four assists.
Jackson Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Makai McKnight out in front who went 7-for-15 on his way to 22 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave McKnight a new career-high in rebounds (four). DJ Clesca was another key player, going 7-for-13 to rack up 17 points in addition to six boards and three steals.
Grace Academy's loss dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Jackson Day, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-16.
Grace Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jackson Day, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 59-58 defeat against Valor Preparatory Academy on the 11th.
