Basketball Recap: Rocky Mount Prep Triumphs

Rocky Mount Prep hadn't done well against Southeast Halifax recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars escaped with a win against the Southeast Halifax Trojans by the margin of a single free throw, 41-40. This was a revenge game for the Jaguars: when they faced off against the Trojans back in November of 2024, they had to take a 47-37 defeat.

Rocky Mount Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jada Silver, who posted 14 points and four steals. Silver is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Mykhalah Lynch was another key player, putting up six points in addition to 13 boards and three steals.

Rocky Mount Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Southeast Halifax lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Alarrah Powell, who had 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Niyla Pierce, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Rocky Mount Prep's record now sits at 5-7. As for Southeast Halifax, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-13.

Rocky Mount Prep will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Wilson Prep at 5:30 p.m. on January 28th. Wilson Prep will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Rocky Mount Prep surely won't give up without a fight. Southeast Halifax also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Weldon at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th.
