Baseball Recap: Holcomb Sets Scoring Season-High Against Richland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holcomb). Everything went their way against the Richland Bears on Tuesday as they made off with a 20-3 win. Considering the Hornets have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kasyn Guijarro made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Guijarro was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Bryce McNabb and Christian Lewis did most of the damage at the plate: McNabb got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Lewis got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Holcomb is 2-1 when Lewis posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bladyn Joiner, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI and one run.

Holcomb was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matchups.

Holcomb's record is now 6-7. As for Richland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
