Baseball Recap: Berkeley Prep Has No Trouble Against River Ridge

Berkeley Prep won the last time they faced River Ridge and things went their way on Friday too. The Buccaneers blew past the Royal Knights 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Buccaneers, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Ben O'Brien and Parker Mitzel were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, O'Brien didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Mitzel pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts O'Brien has posted since back in February. At the plate, O'Brien scored a run and stole a base, while Mitzel got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Herrmann, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Carson Binder, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Berkeley Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matches.

Berkeley Prep's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for River Ridge, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7.

Berkeley Prep and River Ridge are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Buccaneers will square off against Carrollwood Day at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Berkeley Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for River Ridge, they will challenge Zephyrhills at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
