It was a good run, but the Piedmont Community Charter Patriots unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Carolina International 71-66. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Piedmont Community Charter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Xavier Wilcher. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points. Bobby Erwin was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Carolina International got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Roy Quick out in front who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Michael Davis, who scored 17 points.
Piedmont Community Charter's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-4. As for Carolina International, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-7.
Piedmont Community Charter will head out on the road to challenge Valor Preparatory Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Valor Preparatory Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 470th, while Piedmont Community Charter is ranked 200th). As for Carolina International, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Apprentice Academy at 6:30 p.m. Apprentice Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
