Basketball Recap: Music Mountain Takes a Loss

Music Mountain suffered their biggest loss since November 22, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against the Alchesay Falcons, falling 76-51. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while the Falcons are ranked 94th).

When it comes to explaining why Music Mountain lost, don't look at Daelian Walema. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 19 on his way to 22 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Walema has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Quasula, who posted eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Music Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alchesay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Micah Yazzie, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Dosela, who had 11 points and four steals.

Music Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Alchesay, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Music Mountain didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-38 defeat against Empire on the 2nd. As for Alchesay, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 65-29 loss against Marana on the 2nd.
