If the Ellinwood Eagles were riding high off their 54-24 takedown of the Chase Kats last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Ellinwood was beaten by Macksville 47-19 on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ellinwood has scored all season.
Ellinwood's loss came despite strong showings from Regan Widener and Reece Stickney. Widener scored five points along with six rebounds, while Stickney scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Mayce Russell was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 12 points along with eight steals. Russell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Isabela Ortiz, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Ellinwood's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Macksville, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Ellinwood will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ness City at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Macksville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Nickerson on Tuesday. Nickerson is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
