Capital and Meridian are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Golden Eagles will take on the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meridian took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Capital, who comes in off a win.
Capital will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Ridgevue on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles blew past the Warhawks 14-4. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Audrey McKibben, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Stone, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Capital always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ridgevue only posted an OBP of .320.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Meridian was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They came up short against Kuna, falling 9-2. The game marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Penelope Klinger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. Alexia Flygare was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meridian's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Capital, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-5.
Meridian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Capital has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Meridian, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Capital's sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Capital took their victory against Meridian in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
