Basketball Recap: South Fort Myers Triumphs

Evangelical Christian came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against South Fort Myers, but Lil Darius Sotomayor wouldn't allow it. The South Fort Myers Wolfpack came out on top against the Evangelical Christian Sentinels by a score of 54-43 on Thursday thanks in part to Sotomayor, who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points in addition to five boards and four steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Charles JaCkson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

Despite the defeat, Evangelical Christian had strong showings from Drew Irwin, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds, and Quez Outten, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Outten is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last five games he's played.

South Fort Myers' victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Evangelical Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

South Fort Myers and DeSoto County will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. South Fort Myers is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. Evangelical Christian and Brecksville-Broadview Heights will round out the year against one another at at 8:00 p.m. on December 26th.
