Central Catholic is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Edison is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Central Catholic Raiders will take on the Edison Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two weeks ago, Central Catholic was fully in charge, breezing past Sierra 63-7 on the road. With Central Catholic ahead 49-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Central Catholic had a senior duo take command as Tyler Wentworth threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes and Brooklyn Cheek picked up 181 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Cheek's longest reception was for an incredible 73 yards. Gavin Peral was another key contributor, rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Edison walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Gregori 48-6 at home. Given Edison's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Gregori is ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kiaza Calhoun had a dynamite game for Edison, rushing for 182 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Harrison, who gained 116 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Central Catholic to 8-2 and Edison to 9-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Central Catholic has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 409.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Edison struggles in that department as they've been averaging 373.2 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
