The Northwest Halifax Vikings put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 51-39 victory over Northampton County. Given Northwest Halifax's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Northampton County is ranked 303rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northwest Halifax's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camaya Adkins led the charge by scoring 18 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Adkins has scored at least 25% of Northwest Halifax's points. Another player making a difference was Keyara Rook, who scored 12 points.
Northampton County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kashanti Parker, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten steals. The contest was Parker's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michaela Hodge, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
Northwest Halifax's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points per game. As for Northampton County, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.
Northwest Halifax will play host again and welcome Wilson Prep, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northampton County, they will head out on the road to face off against KIPP P at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. KIPP P is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
