If the Animo Venice Pirates were riding high off their 89-25 takedown of the TEACH Tech Charter Rams on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Animo Venice fell just short of Dorsey by a score of 54-52. It was the first time this season that Animo Venice let down their fans at home.
Rashad Johnson and Elliot Smith certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Johnson scored 20 points along with 4 steals, while Smith scored 16 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals. The game was Johnson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Maximo, who scored 7 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Animo Venice bumped their record down to 4-3 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.5 points per game. As for Dorsey, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-5.
Animo Venice will take on Crean Lutheran at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Crean Lutheran has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Dorsey's road trip will continue as they head out to face Marquez at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Hopefully Marquez focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday.
