Otis is 1-6 against the Longhorns since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Otis Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lone Star Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Otis ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They managed a 41-36 win over Hi-Plains. The score was all tied up 18-18 at the break, but Otis was the better team in the second half.
Otis' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayce Perry, who scored four points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Willeke, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 17 to 4 on the offensive boards, a fact Lone Star proved last Friday. They breezed by Belleview Christian on the road to the tune of 51-19. With Lone Star ahead 36-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Lone Star got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Amanda Kubitz out in front who scored five points along with 11 rebounds and eight steals. Peytyn Kuntz was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with four steals.
Otis' victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-8. As for Lone Star, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Otis have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lone Star struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Otis against the Longhorns in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 63-28 victory. With Otis ahead 36-14 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
