It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Watauga Pioneers can now relate to. Their rough 34-14 loss to the Patriots on Friday might stick with them for a while. Watauga's loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.
Watauga's loss came despite strong showings from Maddox Greene and Morgan Henry. Greene rushed for 86 yards, while Henry picked up 64 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Independence found their leader in underclassman Jayden Jones, who rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Jones is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Justin Little was another key contributor, rushing for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Watauga's defeat dropped their record down to 12-1. As for Independence, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Watauga does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Independence will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Butler at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. Butler is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
