Mountain View is 9-1 against the Grizzlies since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Mountain View Mountain Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northridge Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Mountain View came into Tuesday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Fort Morgan by a score of 64-57. With that victory, Mountain View brought their scoring average up to 50.4 points per game.
Tyson Mares-Benz was a one-man wrecking crew for Mountain View as he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carsen Kissinger, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Northridge's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 105-54 defeat at the hands of Frederick. Northridge has struggled against the Golden Eagles recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Northridge saw an underclassman step up: Drake Walker scored 26 points. That was a full 48.1% of Northridge's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Lincoln Lyons was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Mountain View's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Northridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Thursday's game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Dylan Garland and Walker. Garland has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 14 points and 2.4 assists. For his part, Walker has averaged 18.5 points, 1.9 blocks, and 2.1 steals.
Mountain View didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the Grizzlies when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 73-68 win. Will Mountain View repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
