Grandview extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-7. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Othello Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-5 on Wednesday.
Brianna Barriga and Alieen Ledesma stepped up to the plate in a big way. Barriga went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Ledesma went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Maite Montano-Graciano, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Othello, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.
On Othello's side, Kenzie Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. Martinez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alexa Prochet was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Imani Quezada was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Grandview will challenge Selah at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Greyhounds will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten runs in their last seven games. As for Othello, they will square off against East Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season.
