The Moriah Vikings are still undefeated this season after their matchup against the Saranac Spartans on Friday, but the Saranac Spartans came as close as anyone has to beating them. Moriah sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-52 win over Saranac. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Moriah has scored all year.
Moriah's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dieter Olcott, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and eight steals. Olcott is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Joe Pelkey was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Saranac's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabe Cayea, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Cayea also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Duffield, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Moriah pushed their record up to 5-0 with that win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 20.92 points. As for Saranac, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.
Moriah will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Plattsburgh at 7:00 p.m. As for Saranac, they will head out on the road to face off against Northeastern Clinton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northeastern Clinton and Saranac are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
