El Capitan hasn't had much luck against Helix recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Vaqueros will welcome the Highlanders at 4:00 p.m.
El Capitan came up short against Granite Hills on Thursday, falling 8-2. The Vaqueros have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
El Capitan got a good showing from Evin Padilla, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, El Capitan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kasen Baker, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Helix). They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over Santana on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Highlanders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Antoin Simpson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Helix is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-8 otherwise. Simpson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other pitching news, Sean Sherrod tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Helix is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-8 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Helix got a massive performance out of Alex Carbajal, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave Carbajal a new career-high. Maddox Richardson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Helix always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
El Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Helix, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
