Basketball Recap: Willow Bonnici's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gig Harbor over Northeast

Gig Harbor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. The game between them and the Northeast Hurricanes didn't end well, with the Gig Harbor Tides falling 54-40. While losing is never fun, the Tides can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 134th in Washington, while the Hurricanes are ranked 24th in Florida).

Several Tides players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Willow Bonnici, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Bonnici also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Kaliyah Miller was another key player, going 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Gig Harbor's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Northeast, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.

Gig Harbor wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 36-22 win against Westwood on the 30th. As for Northeast, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-43 victory against Cicero-North Syracuse on the 30th.
