Franklin is 0-10 against Edison since April of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Yellowjackets will host the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. Franklin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Tokay hit Franklin with a four-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Yellowjackets fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Yellowjackets have lost by just one run.
Priscilla Magallanez-Coleman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Franklin got a big performance out of Jasmine Nieto, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Nieto has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Aliciana Young was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Edison came out on top against McNair on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 14-run fifth inning. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 19-2 margin over the Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won ten contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jamaiya Wilson was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Lelia Tatupu, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Edison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McNair only posted an OBP of .321.
Edison is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
Edison's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Franklin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Edison, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Franklin keep running through batters, or will the Vikings buck the trend?
Franklin couldn't quite finish off Edison in their previous matchup on April 7th and fell 5-3. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
