The La Joya Community Lobos will challenge the Mohave Thunderbirds at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as La Joya Community comes in on four and Mohave on three.
On Thursday, La Joya Community was able to grind out a solid victory over Washington, taking the game 23-20.
La Joya Community got a massive performance out of Anaya Romero, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. That's the most RBI Romero has posted since back in March. Lillyanna Rosalez was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: La Joya Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Mohave hadn't done well against Prescott recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Thunderbirds' pitcher stepped up to hand the Badgers a 4-0 shutout.
Rilynn Bragg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Jahnezz Jones was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
La Joya Community's win bumped their record up to 10-14. As for Mohave, their victory bumped their record up to 15-13.
La Joya Community's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. The Lobos have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mohave, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will La Joya Community continue to outrun the ball?
