You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Can't Touch This
Westerly's 62 - 12 win over Woonsocket last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Tristan Turano. Turano earned six touchdowns and 281 yards rushing the ball. That performance made Turano one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between North Kingstown and Bishop Hendricken, 2nd and 1st in the power rankings, respectively. North Kingstown came up short against Bishop Hendricken, falling 21 - 12. As a result, North Kingstown fell one position in the power rankings.
Can't Stop Won't Stop
Given its edge in the MaxPreps state rankings, a win looked likely for East Greenwich in its matchup against Classical. The team got that and then some. East Greenwich took its contest against Classical by a conclusive 42 - 21 score. Senior Kevin Licciardi deserves a lot of the credit as he ran for 207 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. With four consecutive wins, East Greenwich boasts the longest winning streak of any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between La Salle Academy (3rd in the power rankings) and Bishop Hendricken (1st). Both teams are entering with last-week wins under their belts. Of course, La Salle Academy and Bishop Hendricken can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
