Basketball Game Preview: Geibel Catholic Gators vs. Mt. Pleasant Vikings

The Geibel Catholic Gators are taking a road trip to square off against the Mt. Pleasant Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Geibel Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 228 points over their last three games.

Geibel Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging an 80-46 win over Propel Montour. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Gators had established a 22 point advantage.

It was another big night for Evan Strimel, who went 11 of 17 on his way to 30 points and four steals. The game was his third in a row with at least ten points. Gary Tarbuk was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 10 points in addition to six assists and four steals.

Geibel Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 70-52 bruising from Southmoreland. One positive for the Vikings, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Geibel Catholic pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points per game. As for Mt. Pleasant, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

Geibel Catholic beat Mt. Pleasant 65-54 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Does Geibel Catholic have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mt. Pleasant turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
