The Franklin Cougars waltzed into Wednesday's match with two straight wins but they left with three. They put the hurt on Montwood with a sharp 56-35 victory. Given Franklin's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while Montwood is ranked 402nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Franklin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jazhiel Herrera out in front who scored 17 points along with 9 rebounds. Herrera is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now stole two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Martinez, who scored 14 points along with 5 steals.
Franklin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Montwood, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-4.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Eastlake the next time they take the court. Montwood will host Eastlake at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Franklin will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
