It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Fair Grove Eagles challenge Clever Blue Jays at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Fair Grove comes in on three and Clever on four.
On Monday, Fair Grove made easy work of El Dorado Springs and carried off a 13-3 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Hali Stokes was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Shayla Haddock was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Clever got the win against Marionville on Monday by a conclusive 13-7. The Blue Jays are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fifth game they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Ava Mittag made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. Mittag was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, Clever got a massive performance out of Izabel Hudak, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Piper Steele, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Clever hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.
Fair Grove's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.6 runs this season. As for Clever, their record now sits at 5-2.
Fair Grove was able to grind out a solid victory over Clever in their previous matchup last Saturday, winning 7-4. Does Fair Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will Clever turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
