After flying high against the Swett Warriors on Wednesday, the De Anza Dons came back down to earth. De Anza fell just short of Acalanes by a score of 67-65. De Anza was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Acalanes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.
De Anza's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ahmari Otis, who scored 19 points. Otis scored a full 29.2% of De Anza's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Christopher Smith, who scored 21 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Acalanes to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gavin Dodge, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Dodge's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Maddox Malm was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
De Anza's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Acalanes, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. De Anza will take on Piedmont at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Piedmont is ranked 453rd, while De Anza is ranked 466th). As for Acalanes, they will be playing at home against Monte Vista at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Monte Vista is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
