The Grove City Christian Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Millersport Lakers at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Grove City Christian was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Berne Union on Wednesday. The Eagles blew past the Rockets 12-3. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Rockets recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, Millersport had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Bishops. Considering the Lakers have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kendyl Bonkowski was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Blevins, who scored four runs and stole seven bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those seven stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Raver, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Millersport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .575 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Grove City Christian's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Millersport, their record is now 9-2.
Grove City Christian couldn't quite finish off Millersport in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
