The Marshall Mavericks lost against the Longview Lobos on January 2nd, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Marshall took a serious blow against the Lobos, falling 83-49. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Marshall in their matchups with the Lobos: they've now lost five in a row.
Longview's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Da'Morrion Williams, who scored 18 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Ward, who scored 20 points along with four steals.
Marshall has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Longview, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-3.
Marshall will take on the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Longview, they will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitehouse will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 856th, while the Lobos are ranked 85th).
