The Beckman Patriots will be taking part in a tournament against the Vasquez Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Beckman has struggled recently with nine losses in a row, while Vasquez will arrive with three straight victories.
Beckman is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They lost 19-10 to Yorba Linda on Tuesday.
Kylie Kim made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Hayden Freedman, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Vasquez got the win against Westridge last Wednesday by a conclusive 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Camila Castaneda and Mariah Pulido made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Castaneda tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Pulido pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Castaneda went 3-for-4 with three runs, while Pulido went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Vasquez let Faith Nasrallah and Daniella Escamilla run wild. Nasrallah went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Escamilla went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Nasrallah is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Cambria McCormick was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Vasquez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 15 hits in three consecutive contests.
Vasquez's record now sits at 4-2. As for Beckman, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Beckman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Vasquez struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
