Basketball Recap: Anaya Hernandez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Oasis Academy

West Wendover won the last time they faced Oasis Academy and things went their way on Saturday too. The West Wendover Wolverines came out on top against the Oasis Academy Bighorns by a score of 35-23.

West Wendover's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anaya Hernandez led the charge by putting up six points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Hernandez has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Aranda, who posted six points and seven boards.

Oasis Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylee Craig, who had eight points and six steals. Craig has become a key player for Oasis Academy: the team is 4-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 2-10 otherwise. Reese Laca was another key player, scoring eight points.

The victory got West Wendover back to even at 9-9. As for Oasis Academy, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

West Wendover has already played their next game, a 42-19 defeat against Battle Mountain on the 30th. As for Oasis Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 41-16 loss against North Tahoe on the 28th.
