Sanford is 2-8 against Thornton Academy since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sanford 3.4, Thornton Academy 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Sanford and Noble meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Spartans fell 5-2 to the Knights. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly three runs.
Sanford saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Hebert, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Thornton Academy strolled into their game on Saturday with an undefeated record and they left with the same. They blew past Westbrook 13-2. Considering the Trojans have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacob Fish made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fish was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other pitching news, Ben Indorf looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Noah Fullerton was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennan Tabor, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Thornton Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive games.
Thornton Academy's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Sanford, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sanford has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Thornton Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
