The Interlachen Rams will square off against the Trenton Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Interlachen was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 69-64 to Bronson. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (58), the Rams still had to take the loss.
Interlachen's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kemontae Nixon, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 21 rebounds, and Devon Williams, who posted 24 points and five rebounds. That's the most rebounds Nixon has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dante Astin, who earned eight points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Interlachen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 43 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Trenton waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 55-48 win over the Eagles. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Eagles are ranked 657th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trenton's win came from a few key players Interlachen will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mason VunCannon, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Ridgell, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Interlachen's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Trenton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Interlachen has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 38.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Trenton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Interlachen barely slipped by Trenton in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 69-68. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Ridgell, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Interlachen still be able to contain Ridgell? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
