The Leon Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 89-38 loss at the hands of Rio Vista. Leon lost against Rio Vista in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 68-45 score last time.
Rio Vista got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Filippo Bencetti out in front who scored 15 points along with five assists and four steals. Bencetti hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Another player making a difference was Blaine Briscoe, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Leon bumped their record down to 5-13 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Rio Vista, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leon is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Burton at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Burton is ranked 1513th, while Leon is ranked 1505th). As for Rio Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against Clifton at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
