It was a good run, but the Walnut Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 53-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marquez. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Walnut has scored all season.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Steven Lee, who scored seven points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Leon, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Walnut smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marquez only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Lamont White Jr was his usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with four steals for Marquez. As a matter of fact, that's the most points White Jr has scored all season. Elyjah Staples was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and six blocks.
Walnut's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Marquez, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Walnut won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Los Altos at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th. One thing working in Los Altos' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten matchups. As for Marquez, they will be playing at home against Elizabeth at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Elizabeth has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Marquez will arrive with five straight wins.
