Basketball Recap: Jaxon Spencer Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat UR Academy

Mountain View Christian Academy lost to UR Academy back in November of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Mountain View Christian Academy Mustangs managed a 52-46 victory over the UR Academy Lions. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain View Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaxon Spencer, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Spencer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joshua Owens, who posted 12 points.

Despite the loss, UR Academy still got an impressive performance from Gabriel Thompson, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 43.5% of UR Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Brysen Parker was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Mountain View Christian Academy's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11. As for UR Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain View Christian Academy and Shining Light Baptist Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Shining Light Baptist Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Mountain View Christian Academy likes a good challenge. As for UR Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Socrates Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. UR Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.
