Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Conway Springs Cardinals walked away with it. They blew past Sterling 52-22 on the road. The victory was nothing new for Conway Springs as they're now sitting on eight straight.
Conway Springs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brayden Kunz led the charge by rushing for 170 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Kunz is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Berntsen, who rushed for 63 yards and three touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Sterling had strong showings from Deryn Maxwell, who rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown, and Zane Farney, who rushed for 108 yards on only 15 carries. Farney has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played.
Conway Springs' win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Sterling, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Conway Springs will square off against Marion at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Marion is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Sterling does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
