It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Medomak Valley had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They skirted past the Gardiner Tigers 2-0. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Tigers back in May, they had to take a 3-1 loss.
Gardiner's batters probably weren't too happy with Sidney Nichols, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 19 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Nichols has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kendall Simmons, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Peyton Eaton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Medomak Valley is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Gardiner, they moved to 8-10 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Coming up, Medomak Valley will take on Leavitt on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 1.5, the Hornets 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Gardiner does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
